The Berwyn Police Department released a statement on Wednesday explaining that they received “credible intelligence” suggesting a large gathering they say is being planned for Saturday, April 22, “during the afternoon and evening hours,” at North Riverside Park Mall.
“This gathering, much like what was reported on in the City of Chicago last weekend, has the potential for public disturbances and acts of violence,” the police stated.
Chicago police arrested 16 people related to the disturbances in Downtown Chicago on Friday and Saturday.
Chick-fil-A in, China Buffet out at Broadview Village Square
Broadview Building Commissioner David Upshaw told village board members at an April 17 meeting that Chick-fil-A, the national chicken restaurant chain, has completed the zoning process necessary to build in Broadview Village Square Mall.
Upshaw said the China Buffet in Broadview Village Square will be demolished to make way for a “Chick-fil-A that will be unique to the Midwest — it will have two drive-thrus.” Upshaw said the restaurant is working on securing construction permits and that he anticipates the work to e completed “within the next year, maybe a year-and-a-half.”
Nearly $25K in campaign donations reported by D209 Together Party weeks after April 4 election
D209 Together, a slate of candidates who ran in the Proviso Township High School District 209 Board of Education race, got $20,000 from the Chicago Land Operators Joint Labor Management PAC, the Illinois Sunshine Database shows.
The large donation was reported on April 15, roughly two weeks after the April 4 election. The deadline for filing campaign financial disclosures was April 17.
Two other donations – $1,000 from Metropolitan Rental Corporation and $1,000 from Melrose Park Mayor Ron Serpico’s political action committee, Citizens to Elect Ronald Serpico — were also reported on April 15.

In addition, two $5,000 donations to D209 Together — one made in February by LiUNA Chicago Laborers District Council and another made in March by Chicago Land Operators Joint Labor Management PAC — don’t appear to have been reported and did not show up on the Illinois Sunshine Database.
The D209 Together slate was comprised of longtime D209 school board member Theresa Kelly, educator Jayda James and administrative assistant Maribel Aguirre.
According to unofficial election results, Kelly, James and Aguirre lost their bids for the board. On Wednesday, Kelly was down by about 12 votes to the third-highest vote-getter, Jennifer Wenzel Barbahen. It’s unclear whether or not that race is headed for a recount.

Can you help resolve a question - when would the time start running for Theresa Kelly to ask for a discovery recount? I thought after the official certification by the County Clerk. Others disagree. P.28 of the booklet for Candidates 2023 is where I looked after my eyes glazed over reading the statute. https://www.elections.il.gov/RunningForOffice.aspx?MID=rOlNCTNZd9A%3D&fbclid=IwAR2yLxPgdPk740__W_WM9Ng2XPgWSpAxvs1CJeDqWrvXiZ2u6ZJbxdyvPU8 Thank you. Also good article about other districts getting money from Democrats - some very rich ones with lots of other people who could donate. Proviso was not in the list online on the Democrat site to check for Extreme candidates but that site is defunct now. Someone told me they looked before the election. https://www.wbez.org/stories/illinois-democrats-spending-big-to-combat-extremist-conservatives-in-school-board-races/b82e0395-3afe-4aaf-92c8-53b663a1048b?fbclid=IwAR3oz8EPXOP8sBymhy-C5raaYmoguVhl4usTVtSAUhBnrzmlH2jTdb-njPI Thank you for your good work.
